2008 Tech Session

08 Tech Session

This year’s tech session meet was one for the books. Our officers approached Dick Hussey and offered to fly him in for the day’s activities and he graciously accepted. The Allanté community is so fortunate to have a person like Dick, who gives so much of himself to helping and advising on how to maintain and keep our cars running in tip top shape.

Doug and Anna May Jackson opened their house for the gathering after a great breakfast at the Golden Corral. One member referred to the buffet breakfast as the “trough”, too much food. We had a great time discussing all our Allanté talk and personal news in our private room the restaurant provided.

After breakfast, it was on to the Jacksons where Doug had prepared his workshop/garage for the event. Now if you haven’t been to Doug’s shop, you need to understand that he believes that everything has a place and it should be put back and at the right angle. During one of the hands on demonstrations, one attendee told Dick he needed to turn a screwdriver a quarter turn to match the line up on the wall when he put it back in its proper place but just not quite matching up to the others.

Dick brought a box of goodies with him: that is parts that are on the most likely to need service list. These included window regulators, seat switches, alarm connections, and more than I can remember. He went over these and other problem areas discussing prevention and fixing procedures for about four hours. He also covered parts that are getting in short supply and what he and his company, Allanté Source, are doing to make those parts that are no longer available. For example, the front head lights that he brought were plastic that he is having made to replace the glass originals that are no longer available.

Doug and Anna May treated the group to a BBQ lunch that still makes my mouth water thinking about it, especially the potato salad. They are such wonderful hosts. After lunch, Dick spent the balance of the time he had before getting to the airport, hands on our cars. One member had a side mirror installed, another had struts for the hard top cover installed, while others needed adjustments in pull down motors. We all watched and helped Dick with these tasks, learning as we did.

All good times come to an end but we will remember this day and the wonderful job Dick did for us all. If you weren’t able to attend this one, you really missed out on a very special event.
