FIELD TRIP TO BARNSLEY GARDENS IN ADAIRSVILLE, GA
A great group gathered at Cracker Barrel in Canton for breakfast (10 cars)! After a hearty breakfast, we travelled the scenic back roads to Barnsley Gardens. As we were driving along, we were delighted by a beautiful sight, acres and acres of sunflowers on either side of the road. A real WOW moment!
After registering at the log cabin, we did a walking tour of the grounds and ruins of the old Barnsley Manor. The manor is filled with historic memorabilia and authentic period architecture and furnishings. A hostess gave a brief talk about the history and some of the events that occurred at the manor. It is a very interesting place with a colorful history. Legend has it that many of the characteristics of Scarlet in Gone With the Wind were inspired by the first lady of the manor Julia Barnsley ! Also, Godfrey still haunts the place but he is the Casper friendly sort of ghost. There a variety of gardens including an English maze with a beautiful large fountain, a bog garden filled with lotus blossoms and other pond plants, wild flowers along the paths etc.
After the tour of the gardens and lots of picture taking, we were ready for the air conditioning at the restaurant as much as the lunch. It was a very HOT day in Georgia over 100 degrees! It was a delicious meal with lots of good conversation and laughter as usual.
We all headed home with another great day of memories with our Allante’ friends who are as beautiful and special as our cars.
See you in JULY for the ghost tour in McDonough for the very brave and adventurous types. BOO!!!!
