Fall Color Cruise October 21
Our trip started at the the Cracker Barrel in Canton. The first stop was McCaysville, Ga. where we were treated to a tour of Dave and Sue Ball’s incredibly lovely home. It was decorated from top to bottom for Fall and Halloween. They also took us for a ride around the lake in their pontoon boat. The air was cool and crisp and the sun was highlighting the colors on the surrounding mountains. Ever the gracious host, Sue had plenty of hot cider and coffee to warm us up after the ride.
We were reluctant to leave but had to make it to Tellico Plains for our lunch reservations at Bistro by the River. Four new members joined us on this trip: Jim and Linda Range and Budd and Darlene Neidig. It was great fun getting to know them. They are delightful additions to our club.
We left the Bistro headed for Fontana Village stopping along the Cherohala Skyway for numerous photo ops including the mile high point. There were so many panoramic views of the mountains brilliantly dressed in their peak of Fall colors. Some braved the brisk weather and let there tops down for the rest of the ride. We arrived at Fontana with about an hour to spare before dinner at the lodge. It was a great evening of wonderful food and lively conversation. We had such a good time at dinner that we didn’t make it to any of the other activities.
Plans were made to meet for breakfast on Sunday morning and then take a tour of the marina and Fontana Dam. There were several stops for more photo opportunities. After a visit to the Overlook, the Niedigs headed home to Tennessee and the rest of us caravanned south, stopping at Nantahala for lunch. Some of the group stopped in Ellijay for apples and some headed home.
Everyone had a wonderful weekend and we were already talking about the things we would do in Dollywood in December. See you there!
