MINUTES OF ALLANTE’ ATLANTA CAR CLUB
Twenty-three members of the Allante’ Atlanta Car Club met for breakfast at the Piccadilly in Marietta on Saturday, December 16, 2006. We welcomed these new members: Doug and Jean Reed of Murfreesboro, Tennessee who gave their application to Paula on the December trip to Dollywood and Kent and Paula Langworthy of Peachtree City, friends of Ken and Lynda Gresham.
After breakfast, Norman Penfield, President opened a business meeting with an announcement of the upcoming CLC Grand National to be held in Savannah in August 2007. This is the first time a Grand National has been held in the South and it will be hosted by the Peach State chapter. Hotel rooms are going fast and those members planning to attend should make their reservations soon. Gary Schubert offered to host a party for Atlanta Club members and perhaps a boat tour.
Our Club has had much success attracting new members through our web site. The 2007 Club calendar is in the mail and thanks were offered to our member Michael Fain for supplying the beautiful color prints of our Allante’s. Everyone agreed they were great.
Paula Vopelak, our trip Queen, outlined coming events for the New Year with our annual dinner in January at Pappadeaux’s in Alpharetta on January 20th. An auto parts auction will be held in February at a location to be announced. Paula encouraged us to consider attending the Florida Allante’ Club’s meet in St. Augustine in May. They always have a good attendance and there will be a hotel on the beach. In April, Norman and Linda Penfield will host a barbecue at their home the day of the Canton Car Show. Other events include an Atlanta visit to the Aquarium or Coca Cola Museum in June, a September Tech session which Doug Jackson will arrange and a December cruise to Callaway Gardens.
Paula asked for other suggestions and some mentioned were a car show in Woodstock in September, and one in Blairsville in October which is also the same time as a sorghum festival.
Doug Jackson asked for tech session questions to be answered at the September meet.
All of our new members receive a package of Allante’ mementos in the mail.12/16/2006Saturday, December 16, 2006
Russell Vopelak reported on revisions to our Constitution to be made before we incorporate the Club. He read the new paragraph C. under the name and purpose of the Club to redefine Associate membership as discussed in a previous meeting. The new paragraph reads as follows:
“C. Associate membership may be granted upon approval of a majority of the Club Officers. Associate membership is defined as an Allante’ Atlanta Car Club member who no longer owns an Allante’ or is an individual who has an interest in the Allante’ automobile and its preservation. The Associate member will be assessed annual dues of $35.00, and may participate in all social activities. The Associate member will have no voting privileges on Club business.”
Member Gary Schubert remarked that it would have been very beneficial to him to have been a member BEFORE he purchased his Allante’ and others interested in purchasing a car might prefer to buy one from a Club member.
Gary Schubert made the motion to accept the Constitution revision as read.
After general discussion, the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
As discussed at a previous meeting, the Constitution will be revised to state that annual dues of $35.00 will be due for all members on January 1st of each year. Those members who join after September 1st will be considered paid for the following year.
It was suggested that our Club adopt a charity and donate proceeds from use of a yahoo search engine for non profit organizations. The Club has set aside funds for a Ken Kogge memorial trophy to be awarded to the best original Allante’ at each Grand National, the first to be presented in Savannah in 1007.
A suggestion was made that the Allante’ sticker for windshields be redesigned to reflect a round Cadillac logo and some provision be made to order shirts with the Allante’ Atlanta Club logo.
Many members brought their dues to the meeting and we look forward to another good Allante’ year.
There being no further business, wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year were exchanged and we adjourned to the parking lot to admire our colorful Allante’s.
